The new Clarian West Medical Center, located in west Indianapolis, provides treatment to the local community in a healing environment. To achieve this, the 350,000 square foot structure includes the hospital and MOB entry from a three story atrium. Specialized HVAC systems for conditioning, ventilation and fire emergency smoke control is provided.
The hospital HVAC systems have air filtration that exceeds code required standards to insure providing a superior air quality environment. This includes HEPA air filters, ceiling mounted for laminar, unidirectional airflow in the surgery suites above the operating area. Air change rates also exceed minimum code requirements in these critical patient treatment areas for improved air quality that results in improved patient healing.
The central utility plant remotely houses all noise and vibration generating equipment.  Indoor cooling tower sumps provide immediate start-up capability year around. On-site fuel oil storage is provided as secondary fuel for the boilers and for the emergency generators.
A customer owned 15 KV electrical distribution system has been designed to distribute electric to the hospital from dual electric utility feeds. Substations in the hospital distribute power throughout the building. An emergency generating plant with paralleling generators was constructed to provide emergency power systems to all building critical areas.
The building is provided with state-of-the-art special systems such as intercom, supervised paging, master clock, patient physiological monitoring, voice and data, television, wireless communications, fire alarm with voice evacuation and nurse call with nurse tracking features. Cable tray systems will be provided throughout the hospital to ease the installation of devices and future devices.
A networked building management system provides a unified platform for monitoring many building systems in addition to HVAC: generators, medical gas, plumbing, UPS, dietary and laboratory refrigerators, snowmelt, and variable frequency drives.
